In Texas, physical therapy treatment may be initiated by
a licensed physical therapist when a patient is referred
by a qualified, licensed practitioner. Practitioners include
physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners,
dentists, chiropractors, and podiatrists.
Physical therapists engage in an examination process that
includes taking the patient/client history, conducting a
systems review, and performing tests and measures to identify
potential and existing problems. Treatment is begun after
a physical therapy initial evaluation is performed to determine
an appropriate plan of care for the diagnosis and current
physical findings. A copy of this initial evaluation and
plan of care is sent to the patient's referring practitioner
followed by intermittent progress reports to keep the practitioner
informed of the patient's progress.
At Cesarski Physical Therapy, the patient and the physical
therapist review progress at each appointment in order to
make necessary advancements and changes to treatment and
home exercise programs (HEP's). When necessary, the physical
therapist may call the practitioner to communicate the patient's
condition or available treatment options.
The terms "physical therapy" and "physiotherapy,"
and the terms "physical therapist" and "physiotherapist,"
are synonymous. As essential participants in the health
care delivery system, physical therapists assume leadership
roles in rehabilitation; in prevention, health maintenance,
and programs that promote health, wellness, and fitness;
and in professional and community organizations.
At Cesarski Physical Therapy, rehabilitation programs are
designed, but not limited to the following medical procedures,
